AUTUMN DEPARTURES

a mirrored face
only partially owned
by its reflection

an incomplete suicide note
a trompe l'oeil painting slip-
ping to surrealism

fishes flying overhead
always wide-eyed
always breathless, unbelieving

a long-haired woman exists
but outside the frame
as has been reality for centuries now…
