Ilness and Getting Well

 

The baritone has a cold.

It shows through his singing

Of the songs by a composer

Who died of AIDS at 34 in 1983.

The singer will get better

But the concert is over.

We'll never hear the composer's music again.

People live with AIDS now

Thanks to a "cocktail" of drugs

Which came too late

For this young man

To write more beautiful songs.

But fear not!

The singer will recover.

He's a heldentenor, after all.
